2010 City of Cambridge Citizen Survey

In continuing efforts to identify ways to better serve the community, the City of Cambridge is conducting a Citizen Survey from Sept. 9-30, 2010. The survey serves as an important evaluation tool that enables residents to rate city services and offer input on what we do well and where we can make improvements.

Cambridge Poetry Festival

Due to the predicted inclement weather over this weekend, the Cambridge Arts Council is moving the first Cambridge Poetry Festival to 4 pm on Sunday the 18th, instead of noon. Also, rather than being outside in Jill Brown-Rhone Park, the event event will be inside the adjacent Luna Café (403 Massachusetts Ave., Central Square).

You’ll need a few more quarters in your pocket if you park in Harvard Square after 6 p.m. starting April 5.

Frequent visitors to Harvard Square say the city’s recent decision to extend the metered parking hours in Harvard Square from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. is more about economics than anything else.

Essex Builders Secures $3.6M for New Cambridge Construction

Essex Builders Corporation has secured a $3.6 million contract from Just-A-Start Corporation to construct a 25,000-square-foot mixed-use development in Cambridge.

The architect of record, VMY Vitols Architects Inc. of Newton, prepared construction documents employing a conceptual design developed by Dingman Allison Architects Inc. P.C. of Cambridge. The four-story building will incorporate retail space at street grade with 19 residential units.

Innovations Agenda for Massachusetts

Scheduled for Monday, March 8, 2010 at 5:30pm a discussion entitled “An Innovations Agenda for Massachusetts” will take place at the Taubman Building in the Allison Dining Room, 5th floor.

The basis of the discussion revolves around Gregory Bialecki’s, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, July 2009 statement that “the Commonwealth must have a deliberate innovation agenda as a core element of our economic development strategy.” He described 10 key parts of that agenda. Cambridge MIT to Sell Real Estate Holdings

MIT announced this week that it intends to sell some share in the seven buildings of Technology Square while retaining ownership of the land itself. This transaction will not affect current tenants, including about half a dozen MIT offices and departments in the development, which is located a few blocks from Kendall Square in Cambridge.

“MIT is looking to recapitalize the property at this time to take advantage of favorable market conditions,” said Steve Marsh, managing director of MIT’s real estate investments office.
